Blogging is a great way to get started online. It’s not too expensive to set up and maintain a blog. Plus there’s many different paths you can go down when it comes to monetisation. As you probably know, my blog started out as a fun outlet to share my love for travel. But it’s since become a very important aspect of my online business.

2. Affiliate Marketing
This is by far my favourite type of online business. While there’s no such thing as get rich quick schemes, if you’re looking for a faster way to be able to scale and grow online then this is definitely one of them. With some companies paying up to 40% commissions on high ticket products you can start earning a substantial income quite quickly… as long as you’re willing to invest to get started.

3. Social Media Influencing
With micro influencers being the preferred avenue for brands to advertise with these days, the opportunity to get started as an influencer has never been better. Be prepared to start on a product for post basis. But once you grow a big enough following and establish a good bunch of testimonials you could score yourself some pretty cool paid gigs.

4. Social Media Management
More and more businesses are starting to realise the important role social media is playing in business growth these days. But a lot of small businesses don’t know where to start and some simply don’t have the time to learn. Enter social media managers. If you have a good understanding of how to successfully manage social media platforms you could very well start your own agency and get booked to manage other people’s social media.
5. Course Creation
Once you’ve been working online for a while you will more than likely start to become an expert in certain aspects of your business. You’ll recognise areas that are covered well online and you’ll begin to notice gaps in certain areas. Once you start to identify gaps and recognise a need for training in this area you could go on to create your own courses.

The coaching industry is a hugely growing area today. With more and more people feeling disconnected, confused, overwhelmed etc. they are turning to coaches to help them.
Be it a business coach, life coach, personal trainer… you name it. If you have a skill and a passion for helping people then coaching could be the right path for you.
7. Advertising Professional
Just like with social media management, advertising professionals tend to step in to help small businesses that don’t necessarily have the time or want to learn these skills themselves. They would rather hire someone who they trust to get results for them.
If you’re a skilled editor – be it editing photos, written content, videos etc. there is a space for you online. As more and more people start their own businesses they realise they can’t do everything themselves. So if you have skills that other people have a need for, it’s very easy to start a service based business based around those skills.
You could either start by promoting your services on freelance sites (for example: Fiverr, Upwork or Freelancer ) but be prepared to start with low prices. Or if you’re confident start your own site and book your own clients.
While the act of taking photos isn’t necessarily an online business. Many photographers are able to earn an online income from selling stock images, creating membership sites, or creating courses.
eBay, Amazon, Shopify and Etsy are excellent choices to start online stores. You’ve probably already shopped on all of them. Why not learn to sell as well? If you have stuff you want to sell, there is almost certainly someone on the internet who wants to buy it.
11. Web Design
If you have design skills then this is a great type of business to start. With online businesses erupting, it can be easy to find work in the web design field since most businesses want to maintain a modern web presence. But most wouldn’t have a clue where to start when it comes to web design.
12. Virtual Assistant
As people’s businesses grow they begin to realise they can’t do everything so the need for a virtual assistant becomes more and more apparent. Depending on the business structure some people may want to hire a full time VA, others may just look at freelance sites to hire one off people to complete a specific task.
Either way, as more online businesses pop up, the need for more and more virtual assistants arises.
13. Graphic Design
If you’ve got digital and graphic design talents then you could also be very highly sought after. With a lot of online platforms being very visual, and so much competition out there. It’s more important than ever for people to brand themselves effectively and often graphic and digital designs are a key aspect of good branding. So if you’ve got the skills this could be a perfect avenue for you.
Video is fast becoming the currency of the internet. But not everyone is skilled in creating high quality video content so if you’ve got these skills then you will become highly sought after.
Anything from personal brand stories, to vlogs, videos for ads, Instagram stories, or regular YouTube content could be the kinds of videos you get hired to create.
You may have noticed Podcasts are becoming more and more popular. But it’s still not overly saturated so if it’s something you’re interested in it could be a great place to start. You can create a podcast on any industry or niche and use your passion and expertise to entertain or educate listeners. Then you can monetise that podcast by getting sponsors & advertisers or even sharing your own products!
