How to Make the Most out of One Piece of Content

October 26, 2018

My boyfriend always tells me variety is the spice of life. And that saying can definitely be true for content marketing. But while variety is necessary, content marketing doesn’t actually have to be hard. Especially when you know how to make the most out of one piece of content.

So, what is content marketing?

It’s a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and engage a clearly defined audience. And, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.

How often should you be creating content?

There’s wide debate around how much you should be posting, and what platforms you should be posting on. According to research conducted by Coschedule the average posting per social platform should be:

  • Facebook: 1 post per day
  • Twitter: 15 Tweets per day
  • Pinterest: 11 Pins per day
  • LinkedIn: 1 post per day
  • Instagram: 1-2 posts per day

Gary Vee says you should produce 100 pieces of content a day (and to him even that’s not enough). Now depending on your brand and mission 100 pieces of content a day is probably not going to be effective. But as per the stats above, if you aim for 20-30 pieces of content per day you’ll be doing pretty well.

20-30 pieces of content per day!

Are you serious? Come on now… 20-30 pieces of content per day. You’ve gotta be joking, Jade. Well here’s the thing. With the number of social media users growing every day. And the number of businesses using these platforms for their marketing efforts. You’ve got a lot of competition.

And if you’re not staying front of your audience’s mind by producing consistent, and valuable content. Someone else will be and you may lose the attention of your audience. Think of how hard you’ve worked to build your audience. You don’t want to let them get away because you didn’t post anything.

But won’t it be annoying?

If you’ve got a growing audience online you’ll probably realise you have people tuning in from all different locations. Meaning they consume your content at different times. Also meaning, one person in Australia may see a piece of content you post in the morning. But someone in Europe is probably asleep then and by the time they wake up that piece of content is lost in the feed.

So posting content on the regular means your posts are reaching more people. But most of the time it’s different people so there’s never a need to feel annoying. And if someone does get annoyed by your content they’re not your person anyway so don’t get too hung up on that.

Ok, but seriously, how do I come up with that much content?

Well this is where it pays to learn how to make the most out of one piece of content. Most people struggle with content because they think they need to come up with completely different content for all different platforms.

This is where it becomes overwhelming and hard to master anything. Trust me, I get it… I used to be exactly the same. Until I realised you can make one piece of content go a very long way!

And once you learn how to make the most out of one piece of content across multiple platforms your content marketing strategy becomes so much easier.

How to make the most out of one piece of content.

Here’s my current process…

  1. Create video for YouTube
  2. Turn that into a blog post
  3. Blog post automatically gets shared to FB fan page
  4. Create pins to share to Pinterest
  5. Create post for IG
  6. Share to IG story
  7. Share to FB group
  8. Send email to list with links to YouTube video & blog post (or if your video is to promote something embed that in a page with a purchase link underneath and send that in the email instead)

So as you can see, once the initial piece of content has been created the rest is very simple. You’re basically just creating graphics to share on your social platforms to refer people back to the initial posts.

Doesn’t that make your content marketing life so much simpler?
