Some people are obsessed with celebrities, other people are obsessed with sports stars. Me, I’m more into influencers.
What’s an influencer you may ask?
Let’s talk in terms of social media. They are users who have established credibility in a specific niche and can persuade others by virtue of their authenticity and reach online.
Basically they’re normal everyday people just going about their lives, creating content, and building an audience of engaged followers who they are able to inspire.
I could go on and on about influencers and how we play a huge role in the way the world works today, but that’s a story for another day.
Today I want to pay tribute to some influencers who have touched my life in a more powerful way than they will ever know.
The High on Life crew.
Just over two years ago, I was not happy with where I was at in life and that led me to start my own online business. And anyone who has ever started an online business would know it can be tough. There’s moments where you feel completely stuck, times when you lack direction, or you get totally overwhelmed by all the things you need to do. Then there’s the moments when you feel totally alone.
(Side note: working online is amazing and these feelings don’t happen very often but it’s normal to experience this as part of the journey)
In one of those moments when I was feeling alone and lacking direction I took to YouTube in search of something to inspire me. And that’s when I came across one video that completely changed my outlook on life.
From that moment I became obsessed with this channel and whenever I needed a pick me up it was my go to. Of the 4.5 million views on this particular video I’d say I make up a good few thousand lol.
Please take a moment to watch it and let their message sink in.
I can honestly say this video changed my life. Whenever I felt like quitting working online it inspired me to keep going. Not only that, I decided one day I will make videos as inspiring as theirs.
And while most people dream of meeting celebrities or sports stars, I dreamt of meeting the High on Life crew and I knew one day it would happen because I would make it happen.
One opportunity actually came about late last year. They were announced as the Keynote speakers for a blogging event in Iceland and I had a ticket!!
Then I decided not to go…
You want to know why?
Because I thought my blog wasn’t established enough, I thought people there would judge and criticise me and I thought I wouldn’t fit in. Not to mention I’d just returned from an event in America and I was too scared to tell my boyfriend I wanted to go away again so soon after.
I let silly doubts and fears stop me from doing something I really wanted to do.
I told myself it was ok, I’d have another chance to meet them. We’re all so young and there’ll be plenty more events in the future where I could meet them.
But this week the unthinkable happened. Three of their members passed away in a waterfall accident.
And just like that, the world of travel influencers has been shaken.
Now I’ll never get the chance to meet them. And they won’t get the chance to continue living their incredible lives.
I never thought the passing of people I don’t know would affect me so strongly. But watching their videos and following them on social media for so long made me feel like I knew them. I loved their message and they taught me how to get totally high on life!
Not to mention they were the same age as me and that really hits home. It makes you stop and think, am I living my life to the fullest?
I try my best to, but sometimes fear and doubt still creep in. And that’s why I feel so connected to their message and I’m so thankful I can turn to their videos whenever I need a pick me up.
This terrible news has given me so much more clarity and desire to help more people realise the time to live is NOW.
While many people will react to this news with fear and try to encourage people to stay sheltered and “safe”. I take it as a reminder that life can be short, and we need to spend every single day doing what makes us feel good.
Too many people get caught up in making plans for the future, working jobs they don’t like just to pay the bills, making deals with themselves to feel better about not following through with the things they really want to be doing.
But you never know what can happen. And if there’s one thing I learnt from the high on life guys it’s to live every day to the fullest, do what you love and don’t ever settle or wait.
And I’ll finish with the words that have changed my life…
“Realise that you can control your thoughts and emotions. There’s no big secret, just choose to think better feeling thoughts. Listen to your emotions and choose to feel good. You can decide to be in a place of attraction and abundance.
What do you want to do in your life? What makes you tick? What makes you feel awe? Don’t be misled into thinking that you’re supposed to do anything. You are supposed to do only what you choose to do. Follow your bliss. Stop looking for reasons why you can’t and look for reasons why you can. And if you can, you should.”
If this message speaks to you, I hope you will take it as the sign you need to start making change in your life. You have the power to create anything you want, especially thanks to the internet. And with 2018 being the year of micro influencers it’s truly anybody’s game right now.
So make a decision, and take action now. Here’s some ways you can start.
