Set Yourself Free From Labels
Here’s a brief insight into how I’m doing just that, getting free from labels.
So I’ve decided to set myself a little challenge, because as I’ve said before, it’s so important to get out of your comfort zone and try new things, no matter how big or small they are.
In the blogging space, my comfort zone is writing, give me a blank page and I can write for hours. I was always the kid in school and uni that got in trouble for going OVER the word limits.
Where am I not so comfortable? In videos!
There’s no hiding there. People can see you and you become more of a real person to them when they can see the face behind the words. While my voice and feelings are projected through my writing, they are expressed way more in speech and I’m not the type of person that holds back, so videos scare me.
I’m also a perfectionist and the rawness of videos has always put me off. I don’t want them to seem over-edited but I also get scared when I just speak my mind because I don’t want to sound like I’m rambling.
Anyway, I’ve decided to put these objections and fears aside, step out of my comfort zone, and embrace a 30 day video challenge.
This is what happens when you’re surrounded by a team you feel comfortable with. You may not be so comfortable with the idea of what they’re suggesting, but you become more open to the ride because you’ve got such supportive people there to share it with you.
If you’ve been holding back from doing something, I encourage you to try it.
You might even find you actually like it. Sure I’ve got a long way to go with my videos, but I’m on day 2 and this is an un-edited raw video of me talking about why I no longer want to conform to society’s labels. And guess what, I actually enjoyed shooting it.
I’m open to feedback so please share any thoughts in the comments.
