2 – Consistency is Key
Find What Works and do it With Consistency
This one is pretty self explanatory (I hope). Consistency is a major key to unlocking your success potential.
You can’t get ahead if you’re not consistent.
This is consistency in your message as well as your efforts.
If you want people to trust you and resonate with you, you need to be sending off the same sort of messages on all your sites – your blog posts need to be in line with the message on your Facebook pages, photos on Instagram need to resonate with your message, and any other social media sites need to do the same.
It’s no point talking about freedom and acting in a particular way on your Facebook fan page and group etc. if you’re going to undo it all by posting entirely irrelevant and inappropriate stuff on your personal page. People will see through the image you’re creating elsewhere and see the image on your personal page as the real you, and if they don’t like it, it doesn’t matter how much they may like the messages you’re putting up elsewhere, they won’t trust you.
As well as being consistent in your message, you need to show consistency in your work ethic.
You can’t post things every now and then and put a half-ass job into your online business an expect to reap the wonderful benefits overnight. Being successful online (or in anything, for that matter) requires hard work and consistent effort.
Consistency = daily action.
I’m just going to digress for a second to tell you a little story. Last year I was lucky enough to attend a PD Day where Alisa Camplin (Australian gold medalist for aerial skiing & now motivational speaker) came to speak to us. One thing she said that really stuck with me, was she ate the same breakfast and lunch EVERY SINGLE DAY for THREE YEARS when she was training for the Olympics. Why? She found something that worked for her body and training and she stuck to it!! She went on to win a gold medal so this strict training regime and mentality clearly worked.
Figure out what works and follow those methods daily. If you’re just starting out, write yourself a daily to do list so you stay true and keep yourself in line, especially if you’re juggling multiple things and can find yourself running out of time. Starting off by knowing what you need to do each day will save you countless hours.
Listen to your mentors and teammates and apply the methods they’re using. Obviously they’re already ahead of you as they’ve been in the game longer, so trust what they’re telling you, apply their methods and do it with consistency. If something is proven to work don’t try to tweak something to do it your way. Maybe down the track once you’re finding your way and are ahead of the game, you might be able to change things up, but in the beginning it’s important to stick to what people know works and do those things consistently.
There’s a reason my company makes us sign a checklist confirming we will stick to the Eight Core Commitments (most of which involve daily action). These eight things are tried and true, they work, and if you want to be successful you listen and get on with it, because leaders wouldn’t be telling you to do it if they hadn’t already tried it and succeeded themselves.
This is what consistent daily action for my online business is like:
- blog daily
- read daily
- listen to audio daily
- post on my social media accounts
- work on my marketing strategy
- connect with my leads
It sounds pretty simple but there’s a lot involved in this, and I need to plan my day to ensure I fit in everything I need to do, whilst still allowing myself time to enjoy life (after all, that is the reason I’m here in the first place).
Now, have a think about this:
We ALL have the same 24 hours in a day, but it’s how you choose to spend those 24 hours that is the difference between average and greatness.
How will you spend yours?
If you answered….
DAILY. CONSISTENT. ACTION
…..you are on the right track.
