Follow Your Dreams
Why You Should Follow Your Dreams.
You have two options in life. You can choose to take action and follow your dreams, or you can sit back and do nothing. But if you don’t do anything, then quit complaining.
It really is that simple.
If you choose to do the latter, you have no right to complain about your life.
I hate to be harsh, but it’s the truth.
I’m really sick of hearing people complain about their jobs, their weight, their relationships etc. but not taking any action to make a difference.
The only person that can make your life better is YOU.
Instead of whinging and complaining, start thinking about what you can do to improve your life. The more energy you focus on things you don’t like, the more you will continue to attract more of these things into your life. Think in positive tones rather than always focusing on the negatives.
At this point I’ll turn to Buddha…
So often we will put off things because they’re too hard, too scary, will take too long etc. Don’t get me wrong, I have been a big member of the procrastination movement, but I decided to make a change and start taking action. Procrastination could be called the thief of time. Think about all those hours you wasted in front of the tv killing time (I don’t even want to count mine) because you didn’t want to do something. Imagine if you had just taken action, how many extra hours would you have back in your life to do things you actually love? Failure to act can build up patterns that prevent you from developing and achieving your unique potential. It can seem overwhelming to follow your dreams, but it doesn’t have to be. It can actually be pretty simple.
Find Your Why:
Refer back to my earlier posts about this. Essentially before you can follow your dreams you need to find out who you actually are and what you want out of life. That is, find your passions. Think about what sets you on fire, what makes you feel alive and excited. When was the last time you felt delighted or thrilled about something? Be it travelling, arts, adventure sports, volunteering, business ventures etc. Basically whatever makes you feel awesome or gives you that tingle in the spine feeling. These are your calling, these are the key to obtaining your dream lifestyle.
Dare to Dream:
A lot of us are too scared to open up to our dreams, we see them as just that, unattainable and out 0f reach. The stuff we can only have when we close our eyes. If you’ve read this far then you’re curious and ready to do something different. It’s time to open yourself up to your dreams. Give them space to grow and develop and become much more than just dreams. When you start believing in your dreams, these become goals, you can actually visualise this version of yourself and will start to allow these possibilities become reality. The key here is not to sell yourself short. Nothing you want is out of reach, and as long as you are brave enough to chase it you will be able to follow your dreams.
The act of achieving your dreams doesn’t happen overnight. It’s not some drastic movement that just occurs. This can be what causes a lot of people to feign defeat, they are led to believe that your life can change overnight. I don’t think this is realistic. For you to achieve your dreams, you need to set goals and start with small steps that you can embed in your existing routine. It’s more a journey of growth and development. Be realistic in your goal setting so you don’t get disheartened. If you set your sights too high all you’ll see is failure and you will unravel, but if you set realistic steps you’ll see success and realise your dreams are achievable. The key is showing up, being consistent, building better habits, and sticking to your guns. Any change will seem hard at first, but believe me it does get easier.
Surround Yourself With Like Minded People:
Find people who are living your dream lifestyle and shape your activities around theirs. Mould yourself to become like the people who have what you want, and stop hanging out with people that don’t appreciate or understand your visions. Really think about what value people (in an emotional, motivational and inspirational sense) are adding to your life, if the value is no longer there then don’t be afraid to move on. Some people are meant to be with us for life, and others serve a purpose at a particular point in time. The sooner you accept that the sooner you will be able to achieve your dreams.
Once you fully commit to follow your dreams it’s amazing how things will almost magically start falling into place.
