Ditch Your Comfort Zone
What to do if you think you’re ready to ditch your comfort zone.
It might sound really easy to ditch your comfort zone, but if it was, more people would be doing it, instead of complaining so much.
*** Warning- this post is not for people who love their jobs***
“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”
~Neale Donald Walsch
My recent change of direction has prompted me to do a lot of thinking lately.
Have you ever noticed so many people complain about their jobs, and how unhappy they are, but very few actually take action?
I’ve come to realise, for most people it’s because you’re too scared to take a risk and ditch your comfort zone. For such a long time I was like this, it was only once I stopped being so negative that I came across this new opportunity and since then life just keeps getting better.
This is why your mindset is so important.
If you continually focus on something you dislike you’re going to continue to attract it into your life because it’s all you’re thinking about.
Whereas, if you stop focusing on your current situation and start picturing yourself in the position you want to be in, things will slowly start falling into place. Little by little that dream life will be more attainable and as that becomes your primary focus you will reach your goals.
I’m currently reading ‘The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari’ and this principle is very clear in the teachings of the wise and happy monks. It’s also a principle that has been written about in many other tales, self help books and fables alike. The reason it’s so widely written about is because it truly does work.
Ever since I started projecting images of happiness and travel into my mind, the opportunities came about more and more frequently.
Last year alone I ended up going on five separate holidays and this year has already started with a holiday so I’m well on my way to making this a permanent lifestyle shift.
Now I want to share a couple of stories with you.
ONE: My parents. This is one of the things I love about travel. Last year when I told dad I was going to South America he almost had a heart attack and tried to stop me from going because it’s soooo dangerous there, but I went ahead and booked it anyway as I’ve always wanted to do the Inca Trail. My parents ended up enjoying my photos and stories so much that they booked their own trip and have just completed the Inca Trail themselves, and they loved it. I love that my holiday inspired them to ditch their comfort zone and experience something amazing.
TWO: Me. On our last day in Boracay we did an island hopping tour. One of the islands we visited, Magic Island, is where the adrenalin junkies go to jump off really high boards into the ocean. We got there and I already said I was going to do it. Once I saw how high the boards were I wanted to chicken out. The boys went straight for the tallest one (10m) and jumped off. It doesn’t sound very high but when you’re standing on a small piece of wood above the crashing sea, it’s pretty scary. I walked out there but couldn’t bring myself to do it. I was feeling way outside of my comfort zone but, instead of giving up completely, I decided to aim a little smaller. I went for the 8m board instead. I was still freaking out, and I kind of flopped more than jumped haha, but the point is I DID IT (you can watch the video if you join my Facebook group or subscribe to my YouTube channel).
What do these two stories have to do with you?
I want you to know, it’s ok to ditch your comfort zone. If it’s something you really want then you shouldn’t be scared to go after it. There’s a reason you just can’t get some things out of your mind, and if you think about it that much then chances are it’s going to be the right thing for you, and it should be scary.
Neale Walsch’s very quotable quote more than rings true for me as it has for many others. I can hand on heart say this is well and truly where life begins and I’m so glad I finally got the courage to take a chance and make a change.
Success doesn’t come overnight and you will be challenged, but isn’t this better than sitting in a boring job you hate and complaining every day?
A small step up each day, is better than no progress at all.
If you’ve followed my blog then you’ve taken the first step to building your ultimate lifestyle and that’s awesome. Continue to focus on your passion as much as you possibly can, and I’m positive you’ll get it in no time!
If you think you’re ready to ditch your comfort zone for good and make 2016 a year like no other, I’d love to teach you the steps I’m using.
Decide for yourself but if you ever woke up unhappy and dreading work in 2015, why would you want 2016 to be the same? Only YOU are in control of YOUR future and YOU CAN obtain your dream lifestyle.
The question is, how badly do you want it?
